More than a gallery…
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is a welcoming community arts center where creativity, learning, and connection come together. Whether you're visiting an exhibition, attending a class, meeting with our staff, or exploring opportunities to get involved, our gallery is a place for artists and art enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels.
We welcome individuals, families, school groups, community organizations, and clubs during regular business hours or by appointment. From self-guided visits to hands-on workshops and educational experiences, our team is committed to making the arts accessible, engaging, and inclusive for everyone. If your group is interested in scheduling a visit or creating a customized arts experience, we'd be happy to help.

Meet the Gallery Staff

Kate Cooper
Executive Director
A Cape Girardeau native and visual artist, Kate specializes in large-scale painting and sculpture. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Southeast Missouri State University. Her work explores the connections between human experience, the landscape, and the histories they share.
When she's away from the gallery, Kate enjoys working with her horses and has a keen interest in equine genetics. If you've ever wondered why breeding for a specific coat color takes so much patience, she's probably happy to explain—perhaps in more detail than you expected.

Kaye Dowdy
Gallery Manager
Although Kaye’s roots originate from Honolulu, Hawaii, and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Cape Girardeau is where they feel at home.
Their medium preferences are digital and acrylic with a style focused on Y2K, anime, and traditional tattoo aesthetics. Kaye owns a small business called kawaiixhawaii in which she sells prints, keychains, and sustainable fashion of her designs. You can typically find her vending at the local conventions and events in the area.
Their favorite part of being involved with the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is seeing how art through human expression can truly connect the community.
