High School Billboard Competition
ooh! What?
The OOH! ART Billboard Competition, presented by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri in partnership with DSW Signs, is a regional student art initiative that celebrates creativity through public art. For years, the program has showcased outstanding student artwork on billboards throughout Southeast Missouri. In 2026, the competition evolved into a micro-literary challenge, inviting students to combine visual design with the impact of concise, creative writing.
ooh! Who?
Open to students in grades 9–12, the competition challenges participants to design an original billboard featuring no more than 21 words. Entries are judged on their creativity, clarity, and ability to communicate a compelling message through both imagery and text.
ooh! Then what?
Four finalists will be selected and featured on digital billboards across Southeast Missouri, while the grand prize-winning design is produced as a full-size printed billboard prominently displayed in the heart of Cape Girardeau, providing students with the unique opportunity to share their work with the wider community!
