JUROR STATEMENT-As a guest curator, the goal of a project like this one, for me, is to communicate the multiplicity of voices and approaches to outdoor sculpture. I am grateful to the organizers for this opportunity to visit Cape Girardeau and to understand the goals for presenting new public art to the city every year. My objective was to choose a grouping of works from the submissions that demonstrated the diversity of materials used, technical skill, experimentation and an introduction to the conceptual framework driving each artists’ practice. My hope is that these works will offer the community a fresh set of sculptures to contemplate and enjoy, considering the context of each site. Additionally, I would also like to thank all of the artists who made submissions to this exhibition. It made my task as juror more difficult, but it also provided me the opportunity to see the work that artists are creating in other areas of the country. As a cultural initiative, I was moved by the meaningful and productive partnerships in place that provide spaces for artists to exhibit their work but that also add value to experiences for both local residents and visitors.
