Celebrate Artists!

First Friday with the Arts is took place April 5th, 2024 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at 16B N Spanish St, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701. This was the opening reception for all the new artwork in our galleries! The AC SEMO Gallery had eclipse inspired artwork and the Visual Arts Cooperative had all new art for sale by our resident artists.

Micro Gallery #1 proudly displayed…
- Artwork from classes led by Chris Pagano at The Tailor Institute
- Individual artists from Blue Sky Community Services
- Ceramic tiles created by Rob Lorenz of Riverside Pottery Studio that were then decorated by students from Blue Sky Community Center

Micro Gallery #2 featured our Superhero on the Spectrum, Thomas Shaner, because…

The Adventures of Pizza Dog

is getting a cosmic reissue!

Thanks to his gracious sponsor, Century Casino Cape Girardeau, Thomas Shaner reissued his sold out comic, The Adventures of Pizza Dog just in time for the Great American Eclipse where Everyone Belongs Under the Sun!

The Arts Council was part of a the pre-eclipse Constellation Crawl and our event was the first place you could purchase the comic! We painted under altered lighting to create super groovy artwork where we can’t discern colors during Red Light Paint Night. We worked in Thomas’ signature medium- watercolors! He was there live painting as inspiration!

Papa John’s provided pizzas for everyone, Jesse Steele played live classical guitar music, and Savitri provided a sound bath!

The Constellation Crawl was awesome. Guests enjoyed events at the Arts Council, Riverside Pottery Studio, Ebb & Flow Fermentations, Spectrum Record Lounge, and Scout Hall!

Let’s Boogie!

Our buddies at Spectrum Record Lounge celebrated with us on Saturday, April 20th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM in the Arts Council Gallery! Travis Tyson spun carefully curated tunes and Grace Cafe+Coffee provided delicious drinks. We invited all of our friends from the Blue Sky Community Services art classes taught by Taylor Crowe, as well as friends from The Tailor Institute, The Gallery of Inspiration, and the University Autism Center to hang out and dance the day away!

Thomas Shaner sold and signed copies of his comic book The Adventures of Pizza Dog and Taylor Crowe and Leah Ulrich sold and signed copies of their book Maybe That’s Autism.

Over 50 guests showed up and we made so many new friends!

2023

Remember last year’s celebration? It involved live painting, blow up disco balls, competitions, Dave Matthews, and tons of mustaches. If you weren’t involved, we’re sure that sounds like a pretty odd mixture. Check out the photos to get a taste of what it was like…
