All activities are open 5 - 9 p.m. unless otherwise stated.

**Arts Council of Southeast Missouri

Art and Fear
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will be hosting an opening reception for its national juried show, Art and Fear. Artists from across the United States were invited to submit artwork that reflected their perceptions of fear, anxiety, and phobias. In conjunction with Pets Night Out, the Arts Council will also host the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. Representatives of the Humane Society will be walking around with furry friends, available for adoption. 

**Catapult Creative House

Jessica Lambert, Catapult Creative House Student Gallery Manager will present her solo show, Breath. Breath is a collection of visual works discussing sleep, dreams, fatigue, and rest. Everyone sleeps and everyone dreams. Sleep can relieve fatigue, but invoke restlessness. Sleep provides rest for the body and mind.  Mediums include printmaking, sculpture, and video. An artist lecture is scheduled for Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Catapult Creative House Classroom. The reception is scheduled for Friday, June 1, 2018 from 5-9 p.m. in the Catapult Creative House Gallery.

Live T-Shirt Printing
From 5 - 7 PM, there will be a live t-shirt printing! A variety of greeting cards and postcards will be for sale for $4 or less, with discounts for purchasing larger quantities.

Natural Delights
The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold its final Artist of the Month exhibition of the spring. The exhibition titled Natural Delights: The Explorative Pottery of Ellen Hones will feature the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Ellen Hones. The exhibition is currently on view on the second floor of Catapult Creative House and will run through June 2, with a reception to be held on Friday, June 1. 

Arts Council and Visual Arts Cooperative Member Thomas Shaner will be at Catapult Creative House from 5-9 pm creating Pet Portraits! Stop by and get a handmade graphite portrait of your furry friend!

The Crisp Museum: Recent Acquisitions

An exhibition of recently donated artworks and artifacts, opening Friday, May 11, in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus. The public is invited to the opening reception scheduled for 4-8 p.m. May 11. The exhibit will remain on display through June 24. Admission is free.

Make and Take: Stick to Your Painting

This activity is free and walk-ins are welcome while supplies last. Participants make a painting that incorporates the use of a stick, which is glued on their piece.

Where's the "pawty" at, you say? It's in the back! Come to Free Spirit Studio for Pets Night Out for a backyard bash. The Indie House will feature special guests that night, including: Plush Salon, JazzWraps by Joseph Zembsch, and BDR Studio featuring Dawn Melka. Minglewood Brewery will be there serving up brews, while Jason Heeter provides guests with tunes!

The Artist of the Month at Gallery of Inspiration is Jennifer Sampson. Jennifer is brand new to Gallery of Inspiration, and is a delightful person to be around. She does acrylic pour paintings, but is experimenting with other methods as well. Her pour paintings are very unique and beautiful!

Heritage Hall will be putting on a pet-centered exhibit. The Kraft Exhibit portrays the legacy of Don and Rubye Kraft who were ardent animal and pet supporters. They will have a display of their life, and have 33 art photographs done by 4 local artists, and one  filmmaker, Damon Taylor. Heritage Hall will also have calendars, notecards, and pet pictures for sale. The event is a fundraiser for the Humane Society and 50% of all income goes to support local animals.

Best of Missouri Hands juried studio artists, Aaron Horrell and Barb Bailey, have just released their third children’s book, “The Gooey Cake Caper”. Barb and Aaron will be hosting a book signing from 1-9 p.m. Their previous two children’s books and the journal about the Paint for a Cause for residents of the Missouri Veteran Home will also be available for signing. The Painted Wren Art Gallery is located behind B G’s Old Tyme Deli.

Mississippi Mutts is throwing a "pawty" for First Friday! Animal rescue groups will be there, including Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary and Mac's Mission Animal Rescue. First Friday partners at EPIC Pals will be hosting a photobooth! Refreshments by Canine Clipz will be provided as well. Join Mississippi Mutts as they kick off the dog days of summer with pulled pork sliders, goodie bags, door prizes, and more!

Mia Trankler is an 8th grader from Jackson Junior High School. Most recently, Mia received the "Best of Show" Award at the Arts Council's 18th Annual Children's Arts Festival. 

For First Friday, the room. Hair Design Studio will also have retail deals and a way to get into a $300 Yeti cooler basket!

The Humane Society is dedicated to improving the lives of pets and people in Southeast Missouri. Their care and support helps more than 3,500 animals stay off the street each year.
