Visual Arts Co-operative

artwork displayed in the Jean A. Chapman Gallery

The Visual Arts Co-operative is made up of 49 local and regional artists.  It was formed by artist and retired physician Jean A. Chapman as a way to offer opportunities for members to show and sell their artwork on a continuing basis.  The formation coincided with the Arts council's move to their present location at 32 N. Main Street, where an additional gallery, named the Jean A. Chapman Gallery after the Co-op's founder, provides a permanent display space for the group of artists.  The Co-op presents a new exhibit in their gallery every month, giving each artist a chance to bring in a new piece.

The works displayed each month contain a wide variety of styles and media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, digital, sculpture and photography.  "Our goal is to show fine art of the highest quality produced locally," said Dr. Chapman.
