The piece selected to be this year’s “Best of Show”, and the recipient of the $500 cash prize, will be unveiled at the reception on Friday evening. Second place, and three honorary awards, will also be named during the 6:00 pm ceremony.

Catapult: Creative House,

Gallery: The Catapult Creative House is pleased to announce the opening of Re-Framed: The Alchemy of an Object, an exhibition curated by Joshua Newth, Instructor of Art at Southeast Missouri State University. For this exhibition, Professor Newth distributed an array of two dimensionally printed ornate frames (screen-prints, digitally printed images, and lithographs) to a diverse group of artists, community members, thinkers, and makers who were subsequently asked to use the frame as a platform for presenting an idea.

Whether viewed as an object or symbol, the frame is inextricably connected to the tradition and culture of art; it persists as a manner of protection, presentation, and as a complement to the work of art itself. And yet all too often a critical characteristic of the frame is ignored: its capacity to increase the significance of that which it surrounds.

Bring in a UFO that is shouting at you. Maybe you stopped at a problem, hate the yarn, hate the pattern, don't care anymore..... for whatever reason it is languishing in a bag or box somewhere. Bring it and enjoy getting started again, fixing it, ripping it, or just working on something new over a glass of wine, cider or a cup of tea.
