2015 Children's Arts Festival

encouraging the enhancement of children's lives through arts education

Introduced in the year 2000, the Children’s Arts Festival was developed as a way to showcase what local arts teachers, and their students, are doing in their classrooms.

The show is juried, and the top 4 entries in each age group, from 3rd to 8th grade, are featured in a booklet distributed at the event.

The Arts Council introduced a special poetry component four years ago that was continued in the year 2015. Students were prompted to write a poem about a piece of their personal artwork.

Fine Arts Education Day

Missouri Senator Doug Libla with student Bethany Hahn

During Fine Arts Education Day, which took place on March 12, 2014, a certain number of children's artworks are selected from the Children's Arts Festival for presentation to Missouri State legislators. On this occasion the artists whose pieces were selected for this honor, and their family members, are invited to meet their legislators, present their artwork, and enjoy a reception at the Capitol Building in Jefferson City.

Their artwork will hang in the office of their representative for a full year, and will be returned after the Fine Arts Education Day the following year. It is a great honor to be selected for this event, and the artwork serves as a reminder to our state legislators about the importance of arts education in Missouri schools!

The 2015 Fine Arts Education day will be held on Wednesday, March 11 from 9am - 2pm.

City Council Presentation

On Monday, July 21the Southeast Missouri Arts Council presented pieces of children’s artwork from the 14th Annual Children’s Arts Festival to members of the City Council, and Mayor Rediger. These visual art pieces, by children from each of the 9 local elementary schools, will be on display in the Council Chamber at City Hall for the next year.
