The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri has partnered with Cape Comic Con for the 3rd year to present a special,  exhibition to feature your original “Caped” characters. This is the first year in which our exhibit will be expanded from one-day, to the full three days of Comic Con. This is an opportunity to share original characters, whether (s)he is a superhero, super-villain, or if they only dream of being one! Capes are welcome, but not required.

The CAPED! exhibition will be on display in the Hall of Heroes at the Osage Center on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday- April 21st- 23rd, during Cape Comic Con 2017. The works will be displayed on the walls as panels take place in the space, with special gallery hours for viewing on Friday, April 21st, from 4:00-6:30pm; Saturday, April 22nd, from 9:00-10:30am and following the costume contest; and on Sunday, April 23rd, from 10:00-12:00.

The artworks were selected for awards in a Youth Division (12 & Under), Young Adult Division (13 - 18) and an Adult Division (18+) and judged by featured guest artist, Lorenzo Lizana, Art Director at Lion Forge Comics. Youth (12 & under) participants will receive a special pass that gets them into Comic Con for half-off of any one day admission. This pass will be given out upon turning your finished design at the Arts Council.

The Adults division has a $5.00 entry fee. Youth Division and Young Adults are free to enter.

To Pick-Up an art board please stop by the Arts Council! If you are not within driving distance, but would still like to participate please email our gallery manager, Conley Clark, at conley@capearts.org to be mailed one.

With a lifetime of experience and a passion for illustration that manifests itself on every page, Lorenzo Lizana is an artist of the highest caliber. As a professional illustrator and character artist, Lizana has contributed to high-profile national and international projects, bringing characters to life with a sense of excitement and vibrancy.

As a dedicated creative illustrator since childhood, Lizana is a versatile stylist with pen and ink, excelling at bringing clients’ ideas to life on paper. 2D art, storyboarding, Flash animation, vector art, corporate logos and character concepts are all areas of his expertise.

Lizana has created art for comic books, children’s storybooks, product packaging, toy and consumer goods design, storyboards for commercials and animated television programming, websites and more. His distinguished list of clients has included Trendmasters toys, Cepia, LLC., Holiday Creations, Thumbs Up Johnnie, Brown Shoe Company, Creative Kingdoms, Great Wolf Lodge and many others.

Specializing in licensed character interpretation and design, Lizana recently had the honor of illustrating the cover of the Riverfront Times, a popular independent St. Louis newspaper. The cover featured his rendition of Voltron, a 1980’s animated action hero making its return.

With his ability to carry an idea from the conceptual phase to the finished illustration, Lizana brings versatility, professionalism, flexibility and a keen eye for wonder to every project with which he’s involved.
