The artwork for the 2019 Regional Juried Exhibition will be selected by April Goeke, an artist and arts educator. April Goeke is a local artist and teacher who lives in Herrin, IL. She graduated from Murray State University with a BS in Art. Later on, she completed her MFA in Painting at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Her artwork has been shown in regional and national juried exhibitions including the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Her paintings have won several awards. She also has taught a variety of art classes at Shawnee Community College and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale such as Painting, Photography, Ceramics, and Drawing.

Currently, April Goeke spends most of her time creating new work, but also periodically teaches at the Hartley Art Gallery in Herrin, IL.

I am honored to have served as the juror for the 2019 Regional Juried Exhibition. It is clear there is much talen and creativity to be found in this region. Judging the submissions was a great challenge as all the works were filled with passion and ingenuity.

When curating the art, I wanted to show the creative diversity of the area. I looked at the works’ concept, aesthetics, and skill when making my selections. I hope the audience enjoys the show and finds it as exciting and thought-provoking as I do.

-April Goeke
