On Friday, February 1, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri hosted an opening reception for the 19th Annual Children’s Arts Festival. This much-loved exhibit, which features visual art pieces and poetry by children from thirty-two (32) regional schools, will be on display until February 23rd.

Introduced in the year 2000, the Children’s Arts Festival was developed as a way to showcase what local art teachers and their students are doing in their classrooms. The show is juried and the top eight (8) entries from each grade level, from 3rd through 8th, are featured in a published booklet distributed at the event. The 19th Annual Children’s Arts Festival also features student poetry. Students were prompted to write a poem about “Memories.” One winner will be selected from each grade level for this category as well.

In addition to winners, jurors also selected work to be presented to government officials as part of Fine Arts Education Day on March 27, 2019. These student artists and their families were invited to accompany the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri and present their work to their respective legislator, the governor, or lieutenant governor in Jefferson City. These works hang for one calendar year in Jefferson City. Additionally, works were also selected for display in the Cape Girardeau City Council Chamber and Osage Centre.

Thank you to the local sponsors of this event: McDonald's, Chick-fil-a, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Southeast Health, Real Rock 99.3, First Missouri State Bank, PDQ, BNSF Railway, Horst Pharmacy, Cape Radiology Group, and Larry Rhodes, Mortgage Banker of Commerce Bank.
