juror statement
Our choices for this exhibition could be grouped into three loose themes:

1. Work that references the landscape. Most of these pieces seem nestled into the rich, unique geology and ecology of this region.
2. Artist who employ fiber arts and other “crafts”. These choices embrace the media’s visual language while employing novel narrative solutions.
3. Pieces that challenge, “what is art?” and, “what should it look like?” These works give power to the unexamined in our shared experiences, or they use tremendous craftsmanship to highlight a seemingly disposable aesthetic expression.

Everyone knows that art is subjective. One of the fun things about working as an artistic unit is seeing how our tastes are similar but diverge. Our deviating tastes are what make our collaborative work stronger and smarter. Likewise, the few differences of opinion during the jurying process helped lead to a thoughtfully constructed, diverse exhibition.

We are pleased with the literal and professional range represented in the show. Professionals, academics, and students grace these walls. Artists are represented from near and far. Their interests and approach varies, but they all manage to impact an audience with their tastes, for whatever they may be worth.
